IECAH successfully completes project on mainstreaming inclusive programming into DG ECHO’s work

IECAH has recently completed a project focused on the design and implementation of a modular training course and sensitization package on inclusive programming for DG ECHO. The project has been developed between December 2023 and August 2024.

The project was based on the recommendations of a previous scoping study. The main objectives of the project have been the following:

  • To review current practices and possible gaps in order to identify the main challenges in implementing an intersectional approach in DG ECHO, as well as possible solutions.
  • Develop an internal training package and online training workshops focusing on how integration, inclusion, accountability and other relevant elements of DG ECHO’s current policy orientation on protection, gender and age, and disability inclusion can be brought together to implement a more intersectional approach. In this regard, four online sessions were held in English and Spanish, involving 70 participants.
  • The development of a communication/sensitization package for senior management, detailing key concepts and highlighting how DG ECHO is currently contributing to the European Commission’s commitments on equality and its relation to humanitarian assistance.

The achievement of these objectives culminated in the production of a final report of reflections and recommendations for DG ECHO on how to move forward in mainstreaming a more inclusive approach in its programming and management.

This project is part of IECAH’s collaboration in the Inspire + Consortium. This consortium is made up of several European organisations, including Groupe URD (France), ODI and DI (UK) and FaireProd.
