IECAH participates in the European Humanitarian Forum

The European Humanitarian Forum (EHF) has become a strategic space for humanitarian action debate in Europe.

The forum brings together policymakers, donors, humanitarian organizations, think tanks, and other stakeholders with the aim of addressing the most pressing challenges facing the global humanitarian system and promoting more effective, coordinated, and sustainable responses.

In this context, the Institute of Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action (IECAH) participated in the Donor Dialogue debate and facilitated a workshop on humanitarian diplomacy.

Dialogue between think tanks and donors on funding and system reform

IECAH took part in the Donor Dialogue debate forum, focused on the significant cuts in humanitarian funding and proposals for a structural reform of the humanitarian system. This initiative was led by the European network of think tanks, HuT (Humanitarian Think Tank Network), made up of the Humanitarian Policy Group at ODI (UK), IECAH (Spain), Groupe URD (France), HERE-Geneva (Switzerland), KUNO (Netherlands), and CHA (Germany).

Workshop on humanitarian diplomacy

IECAH also facilitated a workshop on strengthening EU humanitarian diplomacy in the current context, presenting the main recommendations from its study on the topic.

Participants in the session — including NGO representatives, EU staff, member state officials, and members of the academic and research sectors — were divided into groups to share valuable experiences and recommendations. These contributions are intended to support the process of enhancing the EU’s humanitarian diplomacy tools, with the goal of safeguarding humanitarian space and promoting the application of international humanitarian law.
